ACCREDITATION PROCESS
Vanguard Overwatch accreditation involves a comprehensive, evidence-based assessment of an organisation’s approach to safer gambling and anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML/CTF) obligations. The process examines both the design and operational reality of compliance arrangements - how they are understood, embedded, and executed across the business.
The assessment is structured around eight core pillars that draw on the foundations of sound governance, ethical leadership, and a risk-based culture. These pillars are designed not only to assess current performance, but also to highlight gaps that may indicate broader organisational health concerns - such as misaligned incentives, weak accountability, low staff engagement, or breakdowns in leadership and oversight. In line with recognised governance principles, the framework supports a forward-looking view of compliance maturity, cultural resilience, and sustained organisational integrity:
“Strategy, risk and governance arrangements”
“Safer gambling posture and approach”
“Anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing posture and approach”
“Compliance with relevant codes of practice”
“Assurance: targeting implementation of key policies and procedures”
“Capability, training and development”
“Compliance culture”
“Advertising, marketing and promotions”
WHAT TO EXPECT
The Vanguard Overwatch assessment process starts with the collection of relevant documents and information to build a clear understanding of your organisation’s governance, strategy, compliance arrangements, and operating context.
Once this material is provided, our approach is deliberately non-intrusive. We independently review and analyse the information, requesting further documents or clarification only where necessary to support a complete and accurate assessment.
We conduct site visits and process walkthroughs with relevant staff to observe how obligations are implemented in practice and assess awareness of AML/CTF and responsible gambling responsibilities. We may conduct tailored employee surveys or draw on existing engagement survey insights, depending on what’s most effective.
Following this, we prepare and share an initial discussion draft report. This allows us to walk through our observations with your team, test key findings, and clarify any areas before finalising the report. This ensures accuracy, shared understanding, and alignment on next steps.
Where we identify gaps or opportunities for uplift, we prepare a draft remediation plan to support structured improvement. Your organisation retains responsibility for progressing the work, though we can assist in refining the plan or supporting delivery where preferred.
At the conclusion of the process, you’ll receive a comprehensive assessment report detailing findings, recommendations, and a determination of your eligibility for Vanguard Overwatch accreditation. There are three possible outcomes:
Accredited – the organisation demonstrates a mature, risk-based compliance framework and meets the threshold for full accreditation.
Provisionally Accredited – the organisation is broadly compliant but has some defined areas requiring remediation. Accreditation is granted for a limited period, subject to progress.
Not Meet Requirements – material gaps exist in policy or practice, and uplift is required before accreditation can be awarded.
This structured and transparent process is designed to surface meaningful insights, guide risk-based improvements, and support the organisation to not only meet but exceed its compliance obligations. It promotes ethical leadership and responsible stewardship -encouraging organisations to lead by example, uplift standards across the sector, and demonstrate that strong governance and innovation can coexist in a vibrant and sustainable operating environment.
